European Central Bank and Bank of Japan team up to study blockchain

Representatives of EU and Japan central banks reported on the launch of the joint project to study blockchain technology and its potential application.

These statements are published on the websites of regulators.

According to reports, the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments and the Payment and Settlement Systems department of the Bank of Japan, which are already studying the blockchain technology, will team up and start working in this regard.

This statement was made after the speech of the member of the Executive Board of the ECB Yves Mersch (Yves Mersh), which took place at the 22nd annual conference of the banking technology.

ʺThe project is expected to release its main findings next year. This work can help define how new technologies can change the global financial ecosystem of today and ensure that central banks are adequately prepared,ʺ Yves Mersh said.

It should be reminded that Yves Mersch informed about the interest of the ECB in the technology of the blockchain in April this year. In particular, he said that the blockchain technology can be used in the infrastructure of the Central banks of the countries outside the Euro area.
