Aleksey Muratov: Denmark plans to move from euro to e-krone

The National Bank of Denmark (Danmarks Nationalbank) is studying the possibility of issue and using of e-krone based on blockchain.

This was announced by Chairman of the Board of the International Public Movement Change the World Together Aleksey Muratov, referring to an interview in Bloomberg of Bank Manager Lars Rohde.

As Muratov noted, the interest of National Bank of Denmark to blockchain arose from the fact that currently there are only 20% of transactions conducted in cash in the country. "According to the information of Manager of the National Bank of Denmark, the emission of physical money for the Kingdom are also accompanied with the same serious financial costs. To reduce them from the next year coins will be minted in Finland. In addition, the National Bank is looking for a contractor to print paper krones. To escape from these costs Denmark is ready to move partially to e-krone," Chairman of the Board of CWT said.

At the same time, according to Muratov, the National Bank has not decided yet whether such digital currency be anonymous or regulator will control all operations. "It is assumed that each e-krone will have a serial number by which it can be tracked at any time. But such measures of state regulator can alert consumers," Aleksey Muratov supposed.

He is also sure that the moving to fintech in Denmark primarily will be supported by startups. "Of course, the regulator does not consider a complete refusal of paper money. Blockchain technology or Bitcoin will deal mostly with micropayments and small remittances," Muratov stressed.

However, he drew attention to the fact that many European state regulators including Spain and Sweden are now planning their activities in the same direction. "Europe is gradually moving away from the use of paper euro and goes to cryptocurrency," Chairman of the Board of the International Public Movement Change the World Together Aleksey Muratov emphasized.
