Aleksey Muratov: Electronic currency helps in the fight against corruption and the creation of new information technologies

A growing number of leading economists talk about the need to move from fiat money to digital currency. It was announced by Chairman of the Board of the International Public Movement Change the World Together Aleksey Muratov.

In particular, he said that in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which took place in January this year, Economics Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz stated that the US should gradually abandon fiat money and move to the digital currency. "This statement was made by Stiglitz speaking at a session devoted to the fight against corruption. According to the economist, the lack of transparency in the world financial markets, secret "tax havens", which Panamanian documents told about, only prove the fact that there is a world basis for corruption, tax evasion. For combating corruption and money laundering, in his opinion, the digital currency can be used," Aleksey Muratov said.

Moreover, the Nobel Laureate noted that the United States belongs the countries that "did not fully complete its work on the fight against corruption." "According to Stiglitz, a country like the United States could and would have to move to electronic money and get rid of fiat currency. Such statements of the leading economists of planet show that the imperfection of the world financial system is already recognized at the highest level," Aleksey Muratov explained.

He also noted that a well-known Internet journalist and broadcaster, founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange has recently told in an interview about the advantage of electronic money.

"According to Assange, Bitcoin is more than a currency, it opens up fundamentally new possibilities of dealing with information. Among its main advantages is a confirmation cryptographically and multi-jurisdictionally that allows to avoid possible hackings. Assange stresses that Bitcoin is a fundamental technology, where on the one hand information is no under the control of anybody and on the other - is available for everybody. Namely this advantage helped him in the work on the creation of WikiLeaks. Thus, I am sure that the electronic currency in the near future will also affect the creation of new information technologies," Aleksey Muratov summed up.
