Aleksey Muratov receives gift from King of Indonesian Boti Tribe

On January 20, Chairman of the Board of the International Public Movement Change the World Together Aleksey Muratov held another conference in the city of Kupang (administrative center of the eastern Indonesian province of Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia).

Aleksey Muratov and Indonesian leaders of CWT attended an official reception given by a local aboriginal king in a traditional Indonesian village of Boti. ʺBoti is a center of the kingdom, which includes a number of small villages, and a meeting place of these settlements. The village itself is located in a mountainous and hard-to-reach area in the province of Nusa Tenggara. That is why we had to head up narrow mountainous trails, which were barely roads,ʺ Chairman of the movement Change the World Together said.

He noted that this visit was not accidental, because the main philosophy of Boti tribe largely coincides with an ideology of CWT. ʺTo live in harmony with nature, to treat the environment with care, to not pollute forests, rivers and atmosphere are the most important things for these people. And nature, the environment reciprocate the Boti tribe. As the natives say, the local population does not even need to go somewhere to hunt, deer come to their village by themselves,ʺ Aleksey Muratov said.

Indeed, all villagers are very friendly and hospitable and they willingly tell about their way of life. ʺThe pace of life in the village is very measured. Everyone is busy doing something: some people weave, others prepare food and still others clean up. Natives think that a fieldwork and providing themselves with food are an integral part of their culture. Weaving is another significant part of the unique local culture. It is the main occupation of the local population. They weave using cotton grown there and use natural dyes for dyeing and, according to an established order, villagers have to wear clothes made of their own fabrics,ʺ Aleksey Muratov said.

During the meeting, the king presented a unique talisman to guests – a magical scarf, which should protect them from misfortune. ʺThe fact is that the king is a strong local shaman, who has magical powers. He has put a protective mantra on the scarf, which will bring success and luck. Probably, this talisman will help us in business, but we had to go back to Kupang the same day driving along quite dangerous mountain road and we got there safely. Moreover, despite our fatigue, we had a very interesting conference attended by over 500 people. All of them have joined our movement /change the World Together in the end,ʺ Aleksey Muratov said.
